The Best Of DJ Quik
Just in time for Summer (and Blaqkout), the homie Matthew Africa this excellent Quik retrospective. Quik is one of those artists that is universally respected but probably not actually appreciated as much as he deserves to be. Dude is simply one of the best rapping producers of all time. Period. Get familiar or get reminded, just get the mix. Tracklisting after the jump.
Born Wit It – Substance Abuse

Brand new tape from Ham Squad (B.O.B., Playboy Tre) affiliates and Tom Breihan’s favorite mystery rap crew. They continue their 90s alt rock pillaging by rapping over over “Under The Bridge” on “That Loud” (which has been out for a minute but I am posting anyway). It’s a tacky gimmick, but these guys are talented enough to transcend it. There are a few cuts on here that have some of that B.O.B. space/post-rap bleeding through, but then they are also freestyling over “Can I Live” and “Elevators,” so take the good with the bad.
This hasn’t hit the rap blog radar yet, so stop sleeping, internet tastemakers. Download the full tape. Tracklisting after jump.

Daft Punk x Silly Thing 1000% Kubrick Set
After previously working on the Beatles 1000% Kubrick Set, Silly Thing has now gotten together with Medicom again. This time with Daft Punk to create the “1000% Daft Punk Kubrick” Set. The set was already a huge hit when releasing in the 400% size, we do not even want to know how quick these will sell out. Two years in the planning, the collaborative project is coming closer to a release, with a date set around October 2009. Image via WAD Magazine. Shout outs to: http://www.highsnobiety.com/
Gotta Love My Blaxploitations
This is the music that Obama sing’s every morning when he looks in the miror. It’s the inspiration behind each and every one of Rick Ross’s rhymes.
Melanie Fiona at the Montreal Jazz Fest 2009

Hey crabzinabarrel.com world once again it’s your girl ReneeWoods and a crabzinabarrel.com correspondent attended the Montreal Jazz Fest 2009 and was able to give us some video footage of Melanie Fiona’s performance!! Now I don’t know about the rest of yall but I’m a fan. I love her song ” Give it to me Right” and every time I get in the car and the song comes on I sing the song right along with Ms. Fiona although I know when I sing I sound more like a dying bird but it’s okay because I am not trying to be a singer. But anyways check out the video of Melanie Fiona performing below:

I think I’m A Drake Fan Again On The Low

Even though I’m not a Drake fan anymore this dude has some good songs in his catalog. I’m up just listening to this dude and I think I became a fan again. Songs like Friends With Money, Think Good Thoughts, and One More time has me thinking twice about this dude. I think this dude has a promising career. Who right know has a buzz like this dude?? No one. Drake better sell some records when his album drops. If he doesn’t we all know hip hop will be dead.
