VMA Fashion Recap

This year the VMA’s were extra classy swapping out the red carpet for a white one.  Katy Perry wore more clothes than usual sporting a cute little nude, black lace, and white tutu like skirt.  Loved.

Next was a performance by the clown also known as Nicki Minaj. The tacky homegirls from outer space outfit, ugly pink beehive, bad lip syncing and 80’s aerobics “dance” moves were all down right pathetic.  Please go away.  What was worse than Nicki was Will.i.Am who popped out in black-face!  Is this a minstrel show?!  Dude, I know you’re into being unique but being in black-face is just absurd!  Together they looked the hoodrat Power Rangers from Planet Sellout.

SMDH!

Let’s move on from the coonery to costuming done right in the form of Ms. Gaga who was head to toe she was in Alexander McQueen from his last collection.  Lady Gaga looked brilliant in his last creation.  He was a true visionary.   Another beauty was Ciara in Givenchy; sexy but not skanky.  Love.  More pics after the jump…

Balmain RTW Fashion Show 2010

While NY fashion week took place in February, it’s still fashion week somewhere in the world! Right now it’s the City of Lights (Paris for those who don’t know) fashion week. European style is very different from American style. Europeans tend to be more trendy and sophisticated. On the other hand American style tend to be very practical and girl next door.

Balmain, designed by Christophe Decarnin, recently showed it’s Fall RTW 2010 line. The items in the line have Beyonce’s and Rhianna’s name written all over it. There’s a different spin on the military jacket. Brocade jackets long and short are a trend in this line. Here are some of the pieces I loved. Just thought I’d share.

Peep toe boots are the oxymoron of the fashion world. The initial point of a boot in the fall and wintertime is to protect your feet from the elements, but how are you going to protect your toe if it’s exposed? For those of you who (like me) live by the creed “FASHION over FUNCTION”, this minor detail doesn’t matter. Many designers and celebrities have taken a winter boot an turned it into a summer shoe by exposing the toe.

Solange is wearing Chanel (I ♥♥♥ Chanel) peep toe booties. The intricate woven pattern is simple and classic all at the same time. Rihanna is wearing lace up Miu Miu peep toe boots with a slight platform front. The boots have a tennis shoe appearance from the front thanks to the lace up ties. The Miu Miu boots don’t look as dressy as the Chanel boots, but they are just as haute.

To achieve this look that can carry you into the fall try Steve Madden or Go Jane. Go Jane makes affordable pair for the Chanel-esque look for $39.90. Steve Madden makes a nice buckle open toe shoe that retails for $49.99. If you are one of the few that are concerned with your feet actually getting cold pair the peep toe booties with a nice opaque tight in black or navy. Don’t be scared of colored tights. Done right colored tights can make the outfit.
