Duck Sauce- Barbra Streisand

DJ’s always have me falling in love and Duck Sauce, a duo featuring legendary DJ’s Armand Van Helden and A-Trak, are no different. Their new track “Barbra Streisand” is sure to bump in the club.   Although the song lacks lyrical substance (it is a dance track) the beats are infectious and guaranteed to make you want to dance all night.  N0w, dope beats are great but add to that a video that features more cameos than a season of Entourage and I think we’ve got a winner.

The video features cameos from ?uestlove, Pharrell Williams, Ryan Leslie,  Kanye West, DJ Premier, Chromeo, and my girl Santigold dancing Kid ‘n Play style with A-Trak.

I hope to hear more from this duo so I may add their music to the soundtrack that is my life.

Enjoy!

Chuck Brown and Ms. Kim at Woodrow Wilson Plaza 2010

Hey crabzinabarrel.com world! It’s your girl ReneeWoods (@reneewoods) and on Friday, September 24, 2010 after a long day of work I went to the Chuck Brown concert at the Woodrow Wilson Plaza in DC. It was one of the best concerts I have been to all year and it was FREE. Ms. Kim was singing vocals and presumptive DC mayor-elect Vincent Gray was on stage for a portion of the show. Now I aint gonna lie it was hot as an oven baked biscuit outside. One lady standing near me almost passed out 20 times. But the concert was so good she kept coming back to the front of the crowd. That’s a true fan right there. Now of course I got some video footage for yall so please peep the video below!! Initially I wanted to get more footage of the concert but I was partying so I had to put the camera away and just let the music take over. Once again the pics are courtesy of MWSr. Photography. Have a good day everyone and keep them claws from those hating azz crabz away from ya!!!

Sam Adams – Party Records

I’m feeling this one right here. Never heard of dude till yesterday but this made me a fan. I aint even gonna lie though, this is very light as the title indicates, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t good.  Just don’t expect to hear profound lyrical gymnastics and social commentary on this one. The only thing I really don’t like about this are the DJ TAGS!!!! Will someone please tell these DJs that no one wants to hear them on the record!  But once you get over that this is a very solid fun project.

Some New Music – Kendrick Lamar O.verly D.edicated

Apparently this was first released for sale on itunes for 5.99 but he decided to give it away as a free EP.  Well I aint gonna argue with that.  Only thing better than good music is free good music. Over all this is a solid project a couple of out of place tracks here and there but I aint complaining.  Definitely worth the download and listen.  Some definite gems in here like “P&P 1.5”, “Average Joe”, “H.O.C.”, “Cut You Off” and many more.

CKF Video Release Party

By Urbansocialight

The Crabzinabarrel.com fam hit up the CKF Films Release event which went down at the U St. corridor hot spot Policy.  The red carpet was on fire with some appearances from some the DMV’s hottest artists including Tre of UCB, Fattrel, Phil Ade, RatheMC , Gordo Brega and Uptown X.O. The party was on CP time and was supposed to begin at 8pm but when we arrived at 9:30pm not many people were there.  Since we’ve all still got day jobs, we could only stick around until 11:30pm and videos had not been shown yet.  We’re sure they were great.  Shouts to Backie for the personal invite.

Aloe Blacc

I love the HBO show How to Make It in America whose theme song is “I Need A Dollar” but I thought it was a sample from an old 60’s track I’d never heard before.  That was until my bestie ReneeWoods sent me a youtube link of  Aloe Blacc performing Sam Cooke’s song “A Change Gonna Come” which happens to be in my top 5 favorite songs of all times.  Every version I’ve ever heard, I’ve considered to be blasphemy, but this one actually got my seal of approval.  Aloe’s vintage sounding, soul rooted voice was beyond refreshing.  It was crazy to know a man in our generation was capable of making instant classics.  Since then, we’ve both been fans of Aloe Blacc’s authentic sounding classic 60’s soul music.

Now, NPR First Listen, gives us insight into Aloe Blacc’s, born Egbert Nathaniel Dawkins, upbringing and hip-hop roots.  They are also allowing the public to stream Aloe Blacc’s album Good Things until it is released September 28th.  Be sure to check it out while you still can by clicking HERE! Thanks NPR!
