Katy On A Mission x 2

By Urbansocialight

So, I’m kind of in love with this track “Katy On A Mission” by Katy B.  It was produced by the raining Dubstep King, Benga, who creates an unexpected beat that keeps me swaying.  I tip my hat off to Katy B’s writing because unlike many dance hits, this song actually has good lyrics that any party lover can relate to. “This right I swear will end too soon”—because, seriously, no wants a live party to be over.  No wonder, it’s a #1 UK dance hit.

Now, if it couldn’t be better, our favorite Brit, Kenzie May has blessed with us by banging out piano version that takes the song to another level.   I love covers that interpret the song differently that it was originally arranged.  It’s no longer a dance track.  It’s more melodic and soulful.  I hope you all will enjoy it too!

Duck Sauce- Barbra Streisand

DJ’s always have me falling in love and Duck Sauce, a duo featuring legendary DJ’s Armand Van Helden and A-Trak, are no different. Their new track “Barbra Streisand” is sure to bump in the club.   Although the song lacks lyrical substance (it is a dance track) the beats are infectious and guaranteed to make you want to dance all night.  N0w, dope beats are great but add to that a video that features more cameos than a season of Entourage and I think we’ve got a winner.

The video features cameos from ?uestlove, Pharrell Williams, Ryan Leslie,  Kanye West, DJ Premier, Chromeo, and my girl Santigold dancing Kid ‘n Play style with A-Trak.

I hope to hear more from this duo so I may add their music to the soundtrack that is my life.

Luegar- Work

By Urbansocialight

I’ve been trying to post this video for “Work” by Luegar for over a month now, but I couldn’t figure out how the hell to get Vimeo videos to play in wordpress!  So after three attempts today alone, I think I figured it out.

For those of you who don’t know who Luegar is, you’ve been sleeping.  He’s been in the game since 1998.  You may remember last year’s smash “Weekend Girl” which was pumping on every radio station in the DMV.  ‘Weekend Girl” aside, “Work” is one of my favorite tracks from Luegar’s mixtape “The New DC” (which is still available on his myspace here).  It’s that dope boy music that I love to hear.  The video is directed by 6ix of Cool Kids Forever Films, who has been the brains behind most of the videos in the DMV for years.

Luegar is releasing his new project Total Package before the end of the year and I can’t wait!  He is a total package… Everyone knows, Ladies Love Luegar…and I’m no exception 🙂

Always fresh and from what i’ve seen the same goes for stupid.. so I can see how they came up with the name Stupid Fresh. Their “Start to the Summer AKA June Giblets” mix is packed full of banging tracks, lets just hope our summer starts soon…

Concert Review + Photos by Urbansocialight

Santigold (formerly Santogold because one of those corny ass “sell me your old gold” companies was threatening to sue her), sold out her DC show at the 9:30 Club within the first two days. They went on sale on a Wednesday and when I thought to buy my ticket it was Friday and it was already sold out. Being a huge fan from day one, I was totally boosted when I scored a last minute ticket Tuesday night off of craigslist.
