Teedra Moses Latest Mixtape

I wish my girl Teedra Moses would drop something this year. Her first CD was a classic in my mind. I’m hearing that her latest mixtape should hold you all over for her sophomore album entitled The Young Lioness. It’s not too many female singers that catch my attention, but Teedra Moses has my undivided attention. I hate the politics that come with the music industry. The talented ones should be the ones who should have all the success and not the Wacka Flocka Flames that give the music industry a bad name.

Throwback Video: Divine-Lately

By Urbansocialight

Today, I’m really feeling in need of a throwback video.   I know you guys remember the girl trio Divine.  Their claim to fame was their 1998 hit “Lately”.  This is back when girls actually had talent and personality not make-up and glittery stripper clothes.  This video doesn’t have one bit of booty shaking, no swimsuits posing as stage outfits, no chains or spikes or leather, just three sweet girls singing their hearts out.

Big ups to the beautiful black girls with talent that are gone, but not forgotten, CrabzInaBarrel loves you!

NY Fashion Week: Milly

By Manda J

Michelle Smith designer and owner of Milly by Michelle Smith’s fall RTW 2010 line continues  to uphold her preppy Blair Waldorfesq (for my Gossip Girl fans) image. Her line is a cross between Chanel and Betsy Johnson. It’s has the sophistication of Chanel with the playfulness of Betsy Johnson. Her fall runway show was one of few that actually had models in tights. If it’s the fall I think tights should be a staple. The tights ranged from plain opaque white to green even to hot pink all the while enhancing the outfit without causing a distraction.

There are plenty of pieces to choose from that can also be worn solo, if your not big on prints. The silhouette of the dresses are sophisticated and at the same time playful. Metallic’s were all over fashion week this year, but I love how the metallic’s are set against basic colors as well as bright colors. As a former employee of Hermes and Christian Dior I can tell that some of their classic aesthetics play apart in her design. That’s what fashion is all about. Taking an idea and adding your personal touch to it. Milly definitely accomplishes that.

Machine Gun Kelly’s “100 Words and Running”

” I don’t owe nobody sh*t stop asking”- Machine Gun Kelly. Umm I wish I could say that but I can’t because I owe so much money in school loans I need to take a sip of some wine just thinking about it. I gotta ease my mind when I start to think about all the money I owe. But anyways I didn’t come on crabzinabarrel.com to talk about how much money I owe but I did come on here to suggest that yall download Machine Gun Kelly’s mixtape  “100 Words and Running.” He is a talented dope rapper repping Ohio so please check out the promo video below and then download his mixtape at http://www.tinyurl.com/MGKmixtape

Fall in Love with Marc

By Manda J

How can you not love Marc Jacobs?   Not only does he design his own lines, he is also the creative director for Louis Vuitton. Marc by Marc Jacobs Fall 2010 RTW line is a mix of subtly with splashes of bright patterns, well, they’re bright for fall.

Naturally, in the fall you have to wear a coat. Why not make it stylish? Light weight trenches are the “it” thing for the spring and you can pick them right back up in the fall. Marc by Marc Jacobs line has coats ranging from belted trenches to nice draped coats that’s swallows you but still gives you a shape. Harem pants are being taken down a notch. In Marc Jacobs rendition of the harem pant he made it more structured. Not the usual cotton jersey/spandex fabric we are used too.

The dresses are so sophisticatedly basic they can transcend seasons without seeming out of style. The ever popular zipper detail is present and accounted for ( check out my previous post on zippers) as well as belts. In all of his looks the waist is cinched. Please remember an undefined waist is a fashion faux pas.

NY Fashion Week Keeps it Posh

By Manda J

New York Fashion week has begun! After looking at various designer’s lines via New York Magazine’s Fashion Show (click here to visit).  I certain lines have me lusting for certain garments. One such line is Victoria Beckham’s line. Victoria Beckham AKA Posh Spice is my favorite Spice Girl.  This is VB’s fourth season designing and she seems to have found her niche.

Her RTW Fall 2010 dresses are very stylish chic with a twist of sass thrown in. We are so used to see the classic Grecian form of draping, but this style of draping border line absurd amount of excess fabric…but it works. An extra yard here and you have a new look. She chose to use colors ranging from black to sapphire. These don’t seem like typical fall colors, but I am happy that someone has broken up the monotony of the usual burnt orange and red.  Here are some of my favorite looks. I can see Michelle O is quite a few of these dresses with her standard cinched waist.

Sandals In the Winter?

By Urbansocialight

You already know those sandals belong in the damn barrel!  What in the Y2K is this!  I haven’t since sandals like this in a minute! I know everyone has been trapped inside of the house because of the snow, but with that being said, why the hell would you wear an open toe sandal during the middle of the winter?  When has that ever been socially acceptable?  I don’t even know how I feel about a bare leg because it’s been so cold and plus there are a ton of cute tights out this season.

I just want to know why her friend didn’t tell her this was a HUGE, NO, NO!  Would you let your girl go out like this?  Plus homegirl was in the club partying like she hadn’t been to the club since 1977, doing the funky chicken and all that, no bull.  The whole outfit was a mess of sequin and ruffles, but judging by the sandals, I should have known that this girl was clueless about fashion.
