DMV SOUTH TAKEOVER SHOW AT THE 9:30 CLUB

bunb930club flyer

Hey wassup it’s your girl ReneeWoods and I thought I would show everyone the flyer I saw that made me want to go to the 9:30 Club on Saturday, September 26. 2009.  Now, let me state the only artists on this flyer that actually performed were XO (who gave a good show and brought the rest of Diamond District out to perform) and Kingpen Slim (who also gave a good show).  Now if that ain’t some bullsh*t then I don’t know what is!

Early on Saturday through Twitter I did learn that some of the artists listed on the flyer were not performing, so I went to the 9:30 Club website and saw that Bun B, Kingpen Slim, and Phil Ade (his record label’s website also said he’d be there) were on the show so I still wanted to go. But somehow of these three only Kingpen Slim performed.  Now let me state some of the artists that performed were good but that’s not what we paid for. So, clearly this was a false flyer with some false *ss advertising! The promotion for this event sucked *ss.  Crabzinabarrel.com does not blame any of the artists we are upset with how the event was promoted.

Now honestly the entire night I just knew Bun B was about to come out but instead it was another act that wasn’t on this flyer or the 9:30 Club website.  And why the f*ck was it called the DMV South takeover?? There was no Lil Jon, Trillville, Yung Dro, Plies, T-Pain, SLim Thug, etc. etc. etc. etc. and there d*mn sure wasn’t no Bun B!  Before I finish this post I have one more question… why was Tabi Bonney’s picture next to Phil Ade’s name on the 9:30 Club website???  They don’t even look alike!  The following is a picture of that nonsense from their website.

The crabzinabarrel.com family still got a few pics of some of the artists that were there and Nonchalant was in the building ( that was pretty cool 🙂 ) peep the pics below. And oh yeah we also got some video footage (with Urbansocialight commenting in the background) of some disgruntled customers at the end of the night so peep that as well.  Update: The Washington Post, said that 9:30 Club is working on giving us two free tickets and refunds!!

Belong in the D*mn Barrel: Rat Tail

Rat Tail

Everyone’s been talking about the 80’s and 90’s coming back in to style.  He’s You see MC Hammer pants (but this time on women), high top fades, shoulder pads, Doc Martens, designs in haircuts (for men and women).  But one thing I never expected to come back was the Rat Tail!  Wow!

I caught this unlucky fella at Ballston Metro station.  He’s definately been growing this one since the 80’s and it’s a mess. I wonder if at night he takes the braid out and turns it into a mullet? You know business in the front, party in the back?!

What was hilarious is that I wasn’t the only sneaking pictures of him!  The sight of his Rat Tail has EVERYONE laughing behind his back.!  One girl was even bold enough to take a picture and use flash.

My fashion spies and I are everywhere and best believe we will catch you slipping! So get it right before you leave the house!

Luegar- Work

By Urbansocialight

Luegar

I’ve been trying to post this video for “Work” by Luegar for over a month now, but I couldn’t figure out how the hell to get Vimeo videos to play in wordpress!  So after three attempts today alone, I think I figured it out.

For those of you who don’t know who Luegar is, you’ve been sleeping.  He’s been in the game since 1998.  You may remember last year’s smash “Weekend Girl” which was pumping on every radio station in the DMV.  ‘Weekend Girl” aside, “Work” is one of my favorite tracks from Luegar’s mixtape “The New DC” (which is still available on his myspace here).  It’s that dope boy music that I love to hear.  The video is directed by 6ix of Cool Kids Forever Films, who has been the brains behind most of the videos in the DMV for years.

Luegar is releasing his new project Total Package before the end of the year and I can’t wait!  He is a total package… Everyone knows, Ladies Love Luegar…and I’m no exception 🙂

Baddest B*tch

A Movie Review: The September Issue

september-issue

Move over Trina, we just found the baddest bitch in the world.  I mean, there’s just something about Anna.  Anna is of course, Anna Wintour, the Editor-In-Chief of Vogue.  At the magazine and in the world of fashion, she is the unremorseful, style dictator.  Her mannerisms (or lack there of) are a thing of notoriety & fiction.  The world may actually know Anna better through the fictitious adaptation of her character “Miranda” in the book and movie “The Devil Wears Prada”.

“There’s something about fashion that can make people nervous.”   Anna Wintour, The September Issue

Anna_Wintour_2
Anna Wintour

When Anna is around you should be nervous.  She makes it inherently clear that her time is more valuable than yours and that her opinion is the only one that matters.  This is no joke.  When in talking about fashion a Vogue staffer laments “You belong to this church” –and Anna is the high priestess, the interviewer asks.  “I’d say the pope.”

If Catholics believe the Pope is God’s earthly representative, then the Fashion God’s have surely appointed Anna the Pope of style. Why else would one of the world’s most reputable luxury fashion brands, Prada, change the fabric in their fall wardrobe before it hit stores just because Anna didn’t like it?  They know something the masses do not; what’s between her pages sells.  Not just Prada, but the high-price Prada look alike, and the mid-price knock off, down to the Target, and down to discount brand wannabes.  They will all sell, just because it was in Vogue.

“It’s like Anna is Madonna.” – Thakoon, designer

I hear that Madonna is difficult to work with and to please but I’m sure she’s got nothing on Anna.  Anna comes off as a middle age child.  Her childlike sensibilities cause her to love things only for a fleeting moment.  She scrapped 50K worth of beautiful photo work because she became disenchanted with it.  Like a kid, she picked on the camera man about his weight.  She shooed assistant who had the audacity to be standing near her, just like an older child does to a younger child .  Continue reading Baddest B*tch

Man On The Moon : The End Of Day

Man On The Moon: The End Of Day

Hip Hop’s newest artist, Kid Cudi, released his full length album, ‘Man On The Moon:The End Of Day”, that everyone has been waiting for: on the 15th of September. This album is a must get. When Cudi released his mixtape, ‘A Kid Named Cudi’, people were going crazy over it. He released ‘Day and Night’ and people were playing it literally day and night. Kid Cudi had to live up to the bar he raised and he definatly did it because his new album is what we wanted to hear. The CD has a Hip Hop/Electro rock feel to it ; which makes it different. With hits like : The Sky Might fall, Enter Galactic, Heart of a Lion, and In my Dreams you can really get a feel of what is going on in Cudi’s mind. ‘Man On The Moon’ is a great album that everyone should hear.
